SJ 142 Lead poisoning of young children.

Introduced by: Benjamin J. Lambert, III | all patrons    ...    notes | add to my profiles

SUMMARY:

Blood lead testing of young children. Requests the Medical Society of Virginia and the Virginia Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics and the Virginia Pediatric Society to inform their members of the dangers of lead poisoning and the high probability of risk for children living in old houses or any house while being renovated and to implement the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics for blood lead testing of young children in order to prevent the tragic effects of lead poisoning. The Joint Subcommittee Studying the Abatement of Lead-Based Paint was informed that some physicians may be under the impression that children with middle class and wealthy parents are not at risk of lead poisoning. It must be emphasized that, although young children living in old houses in poor neighborhoods are at high risk of lead poisoning, any child living in an old house is at risk and that all physicians should implement the AAP recommendations for testing.
