SUMMARY:

LD5702733 01/23/94 SUMMARY

Children with disabilities. Replaces certain terms to provide consistency with federal law concerning education of children with disabilities. Currently, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) uses the term "children with disabilities" rather than "handicapped children." This provision attempts to replace the term "handicapped" throughout the Code of Virginia with the appropriate term, i.e., "disabilities," or "disabled." This bill is a recommendation of the Board of Education.
