SB 409 Physician Loan Repayment Program.

SUMMARY:

Physician Loan Repayment Program Establishes a state physician loan repayment program for graduates of accredited medical schools who agree to practice in the Commonwealth in a designated medically underserved area. Graduates of Virginia medical schools will receive preference. This loan repayment would provide funds for a limited number of physicians each year to pay off medical scholarships. The program is funded with general fund dollars and administered by the Virginia Department of Health. The Board of Health will promulgate regulations for the implementation of the Program.

This bill is a recommendation of the Joint Commission on Health Care.
