SUMMARY:

Motor Vehicle Insurance; law-enforcement employees. Prohibits motor vehicle insurers from increasing the motor vehicle insurance premiums for a law-enforcement employee's personal insurance policy because of motor vehicle accidents occurring (i) in the course of the insured's employment as a law-enforcement employee and (ii) while driving a motor vehicle furnished by the employing law-enforcement agency and engaged in a law-enforcement activity at the time of the accident. The bill also prohibits an insurer from assessing points under any safe driver plan under such circumstances. A law-enforcement employee is defined by this bill as a person with law-enforcement authority and includes employees of sheriff's departments, police departments, and other agencies or departments who have law-enforcement authority within the Commonwealth.
