SUMMARY:

Presumptive cancer coverage for fire fighters. Expands presumptive coverage under workers' compensation to include leukemia and pancreatic, prostate, rectal, and throat cancer in volunteer and salaried fire fighters who have completed twelve years of continuous service. Under current law, respiratory disease, hypertension, or heart disease that results in the death or disability of fire fighters and certain other public safety personnel are presumed to be occupational diseases suffered in the line of duty. The measure (as introduced) is a recommendation of the Joint Subcommittee Studying the Increased Mortality Rate and the Increased Rate of Certain Types of Cancer Among Firefighters (HJR 428).
