SUMMARY:

Drug Control Act. Revises the authorization for individuals charged with administering medications which are normally self-administered. Presently, this law requires that individuals delegated the responsibility to administer drugs that are normally self-administered obtain authorization in writing from a physician, administer the drugs in accordance with the physician's instructions, and complete a Board of Nursing training program. This bill provides that a person who has satisfactorily completed a training program approved by the Board of Nursing and who administers such drugs in accordance with a physician's instructions may administer drugs that are normally self-administered to patients, residents and participants of certain facilities without having written authorization to do so from a physician The paragraph providing immunity from liability to the physician for the actions of the person administering the medication is struck. This provision is intended to provide more flexibility for the facilities employing individuals charged with this responsibility.
