SUMMARY:
Criminal history records check. Adds the City of Hampton to the list of school boards authorized to require a criminal records check of prospective employees. A statutory mandate is required to access national information from the Central Criminal Records Exchange. Present law authorizes the school boards of Alexandria, Chesterfield, Cumberland, Fairfax County, Fluvanna, Fredericksburg, Hanover, Henrico, Hopewell, Louisa, Manassas, Orange, Prince William, Radford, Richmond City, Rockbridge, and Spotsylvania to require fingerprinting and criminal records reports. School boards may receive information only for convictions of or charges pending for certain serious crimes, such as murder, neglect and abuse of children, and sexual assault. Dissemination of the information, except as authorized, is prohibited.
