HB 1034 Pupil-teacher ratios.

Introduced by: Phillip Hamilton | all patrons    ...    notes | add to my profiles

SUMMARY:

Pupil-teacher ratios. Directs the division superintendent to report annually to the local school board regarding divisionwide pupil-teacher ratios. The report is to indicate the ratio of regular classroom teachers, excluding resource teachers, to students in average daily membership (ADM) for each grade. The exclusion of certain personnel from the report is designed to reflect more accurately actual class size and staffing levels.

Pursuant to Standard 1, the required pupil-teacher ratio is 25 to 1 in kindergarten, with no class being larger than 30 pupils (a full-time teacher's aide is required for classes larger than 30); 24 to 1 in grade one, with no class being larger than 30 pupils; 25 to 1 in grades 2 and 3, with no class larger than 30 pupils; 25 to 1 in grades 4 through 6, with no class being larger than 35 pupils; and 24 to 1 in English classes in grades 6 through 12. In middle and secondary schools, the pupil-teacher ratio must be 25 to 1.
