1994 SESSION
WHEREAS, Dr. Earle McKenzie "Mac" Bane, a physician who served the medical needs of the citizens of Lawrenceville and Brunswick County for 45 years, died on October 10, 1993; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Bane was born in West Virginia, was a 1944 graduate of the Medical College of Virginia, and served two years with the U.S. Army Medical Corps, including 18 months in Korea; and
WHEREAS, shortly after his return from the service, Dr. Bane opened his first practice in 1948 in Brodnax and then joined with his long-time friend, Dr. William Bishop, in opening the Bane and Bishop Medical Center in Lawrenceville in 1949; and
WHEREAS, the partnership with Dr. Bishop proved an enduring one, as the two doctors served the needs of the people of Lawrenceville and Brunswick County for 45 years, making house calls and seeing the sick on Sundays; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Mac Bane also served as the medical examiner for Brunswick County for over 30 years; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Bane was a member of Lawrenceville United Methodist Church, the American Medical Association, the Medical Society of Virginia and the Southside Medical Society; and
WHEREAS, in 1987, Dr. Mac Bane was awarded the Community Builders Award by the Brunswick Masonic Lodge No. 52 in recognition of his outstanding service to the community and his significant efforts toward making it a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS, a caring, dedicated and highly professional physician, who cared for his patients as people with individual needs and was concerned with their welfare, Dr. Earle Bane leaves an enduring legacy of service to the citizens of Lawrenceville and Brunswick County; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the death of a uniquely talented and valuable citizen of the Commonwealth, Dr. Earle McKenzie "Mac" Bane; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to his wife, Mrs. India Ogburn Bane, and his family as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by his community and the members of the General Assembly.
