CHAPTER 491 An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 53.1-116.1, relating to duties of sheriffs. [H 1334] Approved April 8, 1994

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 53.1-116.1 as follows:

§ 53.1-116.1. Sheriffs to be keepers of jails.

The sheriff of each county or city shall be the keeper of the jail thereof unless that locality is a member of a jail or jail farm board or regional jail authority, in which case the provisions of § 53.1-106 shall apply.

2. That the provisions of this act are declaratory of existing law.
