SUMMARY AS PASSED SENATE:
Duty of in-network providers to submit claims to health insurers; Virginia Consumer Protection Act. Provides that a knowing violation of the existing requirement for an in-network provider that provides health care services to a covered patient to submit its claim to the health insurer for the health care services in accordance with the terms of the applicable provider agreement or as permitted under applicable federal or state laws is a prohibited practice under the Virginia Consumer Protection Act.
SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Duty of in-network providers to submit claims to health insurers; civil penalty. Provides that any in-network provider that provides health care services to a covered patient that does not submit its claim to the health insurer for the health care services in accordance with the terms of the applicable provider agreement or as permitted under applicable federal or state laws or regulations shall be subject to a civil penalty of $1,000 per violation.
