22102108DBe it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. § 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of § 15.2-1655 of the Code of Virginia, Augusta County may hold a new referendum in 2022 on the removal of the Augusta County courthouse from the City of Staunton to Augusta County if:
1. A new plan for the construction and estimated cost for relocating outside of the City of Staunton, to be implemented should the referendum pass, and a plan with estimated costs for the renovation and expansion of the courthouse in the City of Staunton, to be implemented should the referendum fail, are developed;
2. Both plans are to be made available to the public at least three months prior to the planned date of the referendum; and
3. The plan developed for the courthouse remaining in Staunton, if it is the option that prevails, shall be a mutual agreement between the City of Staunton and Augusta County.
4. The result of the referendum shall be binding and the corresponding plan shall be implemented.
