WHEREAS, the Nineteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States affirmed the citizenship of more than 26 million women across the nation and granted them a mechanism by which they could more fully empower themselves, their families, and their communities; and

WHEREAS, ratified on August 18, 1920, the Nineteenth Amendment recognized the importance of women’s suffrage and represented a significant victory for the women and men who had fought to ensure its passage over the course of several decades; and

WHEREAS, in 2020, the General Federation of Women's Clubs marked both the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment and the first time American women made their voices heard in a United States presidential election in November 1920; and

WHEREAS, the General Federation of Women's Clubs continues to cherish the historic precedent established under the Nineteenth Amendment and to inspire women to participate in the democratic process around the country every November; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly designate November, in 2021 and in each succeeding year, as Voting Rights for Women Month in Virginia; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates transmit a copy of this resolution to the General Federation of Women's Clubs of Virginia so that members of the organization may be apprised of the sense of the General Assembly of Virginia in this matter; and, be it

RESOLVED FINALLY, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates post the designation of this month on the General Assembly's website.
