SUMMARY AS PASSED SENATE:
Professional engineers; regulations, scope of exception. Requires that the State Corporation Commission promulgate regulations requiring (i) certain otherwise exempted engineers to be licensed with the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation's Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers and Landscape Architects and (ii) licensed engineers to exercise responsible charge on certain engineering projects. The bill has a delayed effective date of January 1, 2021.
SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Engineers; exemption from regulation. Excludes engineering services rendered in connection with gas pipeline facilities from the exemption from regulation by the Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers and Landscape Architects. Currently, this exemption exists for the practice of engineering solely as (i) an employee of a corporation engaged in interstate commerce or (ii) an employee of a public service corporation, by rendering such corporation engineering service in connection with its facilities that are subject to regulation by the State Corporation Commission.
