SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 156
Commending the Frank W. Cox High School girls' volleyball team.

WHEREAS, the Frank W. Cox High School girls’ volleyball team of Virginia Beach won the Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship on November 22, 2019; and

WHEREAS, the Frank W. Cox High School Falcons defeated the North Stafford High School Wolverines in five sets at the Siegel Center in Richmond; and

WHEREAS, after the North Stafford Wolverines took an early lead with a 10-point win in the first set, the Frank W. Cox Falcons tightened up their defense to win the second set 25–24 and gain the momentum in the fourth set with a final score of 25–15; and

WHEREAS, Frank W. Cox High School senior Maddie Brunick, who had a team-high 23 kills and 12 digs, recorded the decisive kill to end the fifth set with a score of 15–11 and secure the fifth state championship in program history; and

WHEREAS, the Frank W. Cox Falcons’ victory was a total team effort, with clutch offensive performances from Payton Brunick, Grace Holroyd, Erica Hart, Michelle Humphrey, and Kaitlyn Piston in the state final and important contributions throughout the season from every player; and

WHEREAS, the Frank W. Cox Falcons succeeded with the leadership and guidance of the team’s coaches and staff and the passionate support of the entire Frank W. Cox High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Frank W. Cox High School girls’ volleyball team on winning the Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Tracey Thompson, head coach of the Frank W. Cox High School girls’ volleyball team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the team’s achievements and best wishes for the future.
