Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That § 9.1-188 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:

§ 9.1-188. Crisis intervention team training.

The Department, in consultation with the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, the Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services, and law-enforcement, brain injury, and mental health stakeholders, shall develop a training program for all persons involved in the crisis intervention team programs, and all team members shall receive this training. The curriculum shall be approved for Department-certified in-service training credits for law-enforcement officers from each crisis intervention team and shall include a module on brain injury and four hours of mandatory training in legal issues.
