WHEREAS, for more than 20 years, Walmart Supercenter Store 2805 has served customers and supported jobs in the City of Emporia and Greensville County communities; and

WHEREAS, founded by Sam Walton with one small store in Arkansas in 1962, Walmart has expanded to thousands of locations throughout the world, including nearly 150 stores in the Commonwealth in 2019; and

WHEREAS, Walmart Supercenter Store 2805 opened at 303 Market Drive in Emporia on January 26, 1999, with fewer than 50 employees; over the course of its two decades in operation, the store has served thousands of customers and grown to employ 150 associates; and

WHEREAS, in addition to serving daily shoppers from throughout the region, Walmart Supercenter Store 2805 makes generous contributions to charitable organizations and maintains a partnership with the Children’s Hospital of Richmond to make a difference in the lives of local youths; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Walmart Supercenter Store 2805 for its contributions to the City of Emporia and Greensville County communities on the occasion of its 20th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Walmart Supercenter Store 2805 as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for its community outreach efforts and commitment to customer service.
