20103582DBe it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 46.2-803.2 as follows:
§ 46.2-803.2. Commercial motor vehicles; global positioning systems.
No person shall drive any commercial motor vehicle, as defined in § 46.2-341.4, that (i) has a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 or more pounds or (ii) has a gross combination weight rating of 26,001 or more pounds inclusive of a towed vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 10,000 pounds, unless such motor vehicle is equipped with a global positioning system (GPS) specifically designed for large commercial vehicles that assists such vehicle to (a) avoid low overpasses, (b) avoid prohibited roads, and (c) identify highways suitable for such vehicle. Such GPS shall be used for navigation purposes whenever such motor vehicle is being operated on any highway in the Commonwealth other than an interstate highway.
