2019 SPECIAL SESSION I
WHEREAS, Robert Thomas Williams of Chesapeake, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather and a dedicated employee of the Virginia Beach Department of Public Utilities, died on May 31, 2019; and
WHEREAS, a native of Ohio, Robert “Bobby” Williams served his country during the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Navy, stationed aboard the USS America; after his honorable discharge, he attended Virginia Wesleyan College, earning a bachelor’s degree in 1975; and
WHEREAS, during his long tenure as a city employee, Bobby Williams became a source of institutional knowledge and was trusted and respected by his coworkers; and
WHEREAS, Bobby Williams had most recently worked as a special projects coordinator in the Virginia Beach Department of Public Utilities, where he used his expertise to assist with important programs, including the Virginia Beach Seawall; and
WHEREAS, in December 2018, Bobby Williams was recognized as one of only two employees in the Department of Public Utilities with more than 40 years of service to the City of Virginia Beach; and
WHEREAS, Bobby Williams will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 49 years, Sharon; children, Robert, Jr., and Sarah, and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, and colleagues at the Virginia Beach Department of Public Utilities; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Robert Thomas Williams, a dedicated civil servant and a respected member of the Chesapeake community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Robert Thomas Williams as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s respect for his memory.
