HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 4040 Offered July 9, 2019 Prefiled July 9, 2019 Commending the Liberty High School softball team. ---------- Patron-- Austin ----------

WHEREAS, the Liberty High School softball team of Bedford claimed its first state title in team history with a victory in the Virginia High School League Class 3 state championship on June 14, 2019; and

WHEREAS, the Liberty High School Minettes defeated the Turner Ashby High School Knights by a score of 4 - 1 in the state final; and

WHEREAS, the Turner Ashby Knights took a 1 - 0 lead in the first inning, but the Liberty Minettes regained the momentum to tie the game in the fourth inning and added unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth innings; and

WHEREAS, the Liberty High School Minettes ably responded to pressure and relied on their resilient defense, strong pitching, and timely offense to secure the historic state title; and

WHEREAS, the Liberty Minettes’ championship win is a testament to the hard work and dedication of all the student-athletes, the leadership of coaches and staff, and the enthusiastic support of the entire Liberty High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Liberty High School softball team hereby be commended on winning the Virginia High School League Class 3 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mike Thompson, head coach of the Liberty High School softball team, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the team’s achievements and best wishes for the future.
