2019 SPECIAL SESSION I
19200248DWHEREAS, Shreya Arun of Purcellville, a student at Loudoun Valley High School, won the US Speedskating short track national championship in April 2019; and
WHEREAS, with victories in the 1,500-meter race, the 1,000-meter race, and the 500-meter race, Shreya Arun had secured her national title in the 16 - 17 age category by day two of the three-day competition; and
WHEREAS, Shreya Arun began figure skating while she was in kindergarten and has been honing her skill as a speed skater for seven years; she is currently a member of the United Capital Blades Speedskating Club; and
WHEREAS, Shreya Arun has participated in several other national championships and is training for the Youth Olympic Games trials in hopes of securing a slot on Team USA during the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games; and
WHEREAS, Shreya Arun serves the community as the chief executive officer of iloom, a nonprofit organization that gathers items returned to different manufacturers to donate them to homeless shelters or local families in need; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Shreya Arun hereby be commended on winning the US Speedskating short track national championship in 2019; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Shreya Arun as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for her achievements and best wishes for the future.
