Commending the Woodgrove High School girls' soccer team.

WHEREAS, the Woodgrove High School girls’ soccer team claimed its third state title in program history with a victory in the Virginia High School League Class 4 state championship in 2019; and

WHEREAS, the Woodgrove High School Wolverines defeated the reigning state champions, the Loudoun County Raiders, by a score of 1 - 0 at Roanoke College; and

WHEREAS, Woodgrove’s Liz Marcheschi scored the game-winner off a rebound from a shot by fellow junior Rachel Castro; the tense contest finished in overtime, as did all four of the Woodgrove Wolverines’ other matches against the Loudoun County Raiders earlier in the season; and

WHEREAS, the Woodgrove Wolverines’ staunch defense, led by center backs Rachel Chatfield and Delaney Boyer and goalkeeper Xanthe Bergel, did not allow a goal during 170 minutes of play in the state semifinal and championship; and

WHEREAS, the Woodgrove Wolverines finished the season with an impressive 20 - 2 - 3 record through the hard work and determination of all the student-athletes, the leadership of coaches and staff, and the passionate support of the entire Woodgrove High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Woodgrove High School girls’ soccer team hereby be commended on winning the Virginia High School League Class 4 state championship in 2019; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Pat Manno, head coach of the Woodgrove High School girls’ soccer team, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the team’s achievements and best wishes for the future.
