Celebrating the life of Larry Edward Iceman.

WHEREAS, Larry Edward Iceman, a passionate advocate for the Smith Mountain Lake community who worked diligently to preserve and maintain the lake as a vital resource for the region, died on April 30, 2019; and

WHEREAS, a native of Massillon, Ohio, Larry Iceman earned a bachelor’s degree from Kent State University and a master’s degree from Rider University; and

WHEREAS, Larry Iceman began his long and successful career as a chemist with Rohm and Haas Company, then worked at Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., where he retired as global business manager and director of business development in 2004; and

WHEREAS, after his well-earned retirement, Larry Iceman relocated to the Commonwealth and offered his wisdom to the Smith Mountain Lake community as president of the Smith Mountain Lake Lions Club and the Smith Mountain Lake Association; and

WHEREAS, during his time with the Smith Mountain Lake Association, Larry Iceman coordinated a weekly water quality monitoring program as well as lake clean-up initiatives, becoming known as a “custodian of the lake”; and

WHEREAS, while Larry Iceman had traveled the world for both business and pleasure, he was most at home at his beloved Smith Mountain Lake, and his leadership helped preserve the lake for future generations of residents and visitors; and

WHEREAS, Larry Iceman received many awards and accolades for his work, including the Melvin Jones Fellowship for Dedicated Humanitarian Services from Lions Club International and the 2015 Melvin S. Johnston Award from the Smith Mountain Lake Association; and

WHEREAS, Larry Iceman will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his beloved wife of 30 years, Beatrice; his sons, Jason and Joseph, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Larry Edward Iceman, a highly admired servant-leader in the Smith Mountain Lake community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Larry Edward Iceman as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
