2019 SPECIAL SESSION I
WHEREAS, in June 2019, the Chatham High School baseball team made history with a win in the Virginia High School League Class 2 state championship, scoring 23 runs from 21 hits to set a new state record; and
WHEREAS, the Chatham High School Cavaliers defeated the Lebanon High School Pioneers by a score of 23 - 5 at Calfee Park in Pulaski; and
WHEREAS, after a 1 - 1 first inning, the Chatham Cavaliers pulled ahead with five runs in the second inning and never looked back; and
WHEREAS, senior pitcher Andrew Potojecki shut down the opposing team’s hitters, while the Chatham Cavaliers’ explosive offense ran rampant, led by Grant Reynolds, Grayson Reed, Matt Arnold, Brae Adkins, and Hunter Adkins; and
WHEREAS, the Chatham Cavaliers’ final tally of 23 runs was the most ever in a Virginia High School League state final; the previous record of 22 had stood since 2003; and
WHEREAS, the Chatham Cavaliers’ victorious season is a testament to the hard work and determination of all the student-athletes, the leadership of coaches and staff, and the enthusiastic support of the entire Chatham High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Chatham High School baseball team hereby be commended on winning the Virginia High School League Class 2 state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Chad Anderson, head coach of the Chatham High School baseball team, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the team’s achievements and best wishes for the future.
