SUMMARY AS ENACTED WITH GOVERNOR'S RECOMMENDATION:

Capital murder; law-enforcement officers and fire marshals; mandatory minimum. Provides that any person convicted of capital murder of a law-enforcement officer or certain other public safety officials who was 18 years of age or older at the time of the offense shall be sentenced to no less than a mandatory minimum term of confinement for life. This bill is identical to SB 1501.

SUMMARY AS PASSED HOUSE:

Capital murder; punishment. Provides that any person convicted of capital murder who was 18 years of age of older at the time of the offense shall be sentenced to no less than a mandatory minimum term of confinement for life.

SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:

Capital murder; law-enforcement officers and fire marshals; reduction of charges. Provides that no person charged with capital murder of a law-enforcement officer, a fire marshal or deputy or assistant fire marshal when such fire marshal or deputy or assistant fire marshal has been granted police powers, an auxiliary police officer, an auxiliary deputy sheriff, or any law-enforcement officer of another state or the United States having the power to arrest for a felony under the laws of such state or the United States shall have his capital murder charge reduced or amended in any manner.
