SUMMARY AS PASSED HOUSE:
Teacher licensure; alternate routes. Requires the Board of Education to develop guidelines that establish a process to permit a school board or any organization sponsored by a school board to petition the Board for approval of an alternate route to licensure that may be used to meet the requirements for a provisional or renewable license or any endorsement.
SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Teacher licensure; endorsement; Montessori method. Requires the Board of Education to provide for licensure of teachers with an endorsement in the Montessori method of education. The bill requires the Board of Education, in establishing the requirements for such endorsement, to require, at a minimum, (i) a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education, (ii) graduation from a teacher education program affiliated with the American Montessori Society or receipt of a certificate from the Association Montessori Internationale, and (iii) employment by a school board in a teaching position for which the Montessori method endorsed by the American Montessori Society or the Association Montessori Internationale is the primary method of instruction.
