2018 SPECIAL SESSION I
WHEREAS, Benjamin Henry Bascum Hubbard III, a respected attorney and an active community leader in the Northern Neck, died on May 13, 2018; and
WHEREAS, the family of Benjamin Henry “B. H.” Bascum Hubbard III has deep roots in the Northern Neck and a long history of service to Lancaster County; he was born in White Stone and attended Christchurch School before earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia; and
WHEREAS, after working as an English teacher in Chesterfield and Lancaster Counties, B. H. Hubbard answered his calling to the legal profession; he earned a law degree from the University of South Carolina and conducted graduate work at New York University; and
WHEREAS, B. H. Hubbard clerked for the Honorable William H. Quealy of the United States Tax Court and worked for the firm Agelasto and Agelasto in Norfolk until he returned to Lancaster County in 1979; and
WHEREAS, B. H. Hubbard was a founding partner of Hubbard, Terry and Britt in Irvington, where he practiced estate and business planning as well as real estate law; his dedication to his clients was unparalleled, and he was highly admired in the legal field for his honesty and professionalism; and
WHEREAS, B. H. Hubbard volunteered his wise leadership to the Lancaster County Chapter of the American Heart Association, the Mary Ball Washington Museum and Library, the Lancaster County Lions Club, the local Chamber of Commerce, and two volunteer fire departments; and
WHEREAS, B. H. Hubbard took a special interest in the health and wellness of community members through his leadership positions at Rappahannock General Hospital, Chesapeake Health Services, Northern Neck Insurance Company, and Bon Secours Richmond Health System; and
WHEREAS, B. H. Hubbard was a man of deep faith who enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community at Grace Episcopal Church and Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church; and
WHEREAS, B. H. Hubbard will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his beloved wife of more than 50 years, Terry; his children, Emory, Elizabeth, and Benjamin, and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Benjamin Henry Bascum Hubbard III; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Benjamin Henry Bascum Hubbard III as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
