WHEREAS, for five decades, Boy Scout Troop 499 in Virginia Beach has helped boys and young men become responsible citizens of the Commonwealth and the United States by fostering leadership development and a commitment to service; and
WHEREAS, chartered in 1968, Boy Scout Troop 499 is part of the Tidewater Council of the Boy Scouts of America and has been generously sponsored by Carrow Baptist Church throughout its history; and
WHEREAS, Boy Scout Troop 499 has given countless Scouts opportunities to participate in exciting recreational activities, such as hiking, biking, skiing, rafting, camping, and many others, while learning valuable life skills; and
WHEREAS, Boy Scout Troop 499’s adult leaders have promoted the core values of the Boy Scouts of America, helping Scouts become trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, and clean; and
WHEREAS, sixty members of Boy Scout Troop 499 have achieved the organization’s highest rank of Eagle Scout by earning at least 21 merit badges and planning and completing an Eagle Scout service project; and
WHEREAS, among Boy Scout Troop 499’s many service projects, members of the troop have completed an outdoor discovery center at Arrowhead Elementary School; constructed learning development tables for Birdneck Elementary School; undertaken conservation projects in local parks, beaches, and walking trails; held a book drive to benefit children through the REACH Program; and participated in a bed-building project for dogs at the Virginia Beach SPCA; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Boy Scout Troop 499 hereby be commended on the occasion of its 50th anniversary on April 28, 2018; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Boy Scout Troop 499 as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the troop’s legacy of contributions to the Virginia Beach community.
