WHEREAS, Jim Corcoran retires as president and chief executive officer of the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce in 2018 after eight years of exceptional leadership; and

WHEREAS, with more than 700 member organizations accounting for more than 500,000 employees, the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce is the largest chamber of commerce in the region and has thrived under Jim Corcoran’s wise stewardship; and

WHEREAS, Jim Corcoran has served as president and chief executive officer of the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce since April 2010; he has helped the chamber fulfill its mission to provide thought leadership, strengthen industry knowledge, advocate on behalf of members, and support the community; and

WHEREAS, Jim Corcoran established meaningful partnerships between regional organizations, government, and academia to create a robust and innovative business community in Northern Virginia; and

WHEREAS, during Jim Corcoran’s tenure, the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce has launched several key initiatives related to government contracting, women in business, corporate responsibility, professional development, workforce development, entrepreneurship, health care, and transportation; and

WHEREAS, Jim Corcoran volunteers his time and leadership to enhance the community as a member of numerous boards and committees, including the Arts Council of Fairfax County, the Education Foundation of Fairfax County Public Schools, Leadership Fairfax, the Northern Virginia Regional Commission, Visit Fairfax, and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, among others; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Rider University and St. Joseph’s University, Jim Corcoran previously served in sales and marketing positions for Borden, Del Monte, and Richardson Brands; he also held leadership positions in the National Confectioners Association for 14 years and helped the organization double in membership; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Jim Corcoran hereby be commended for his leadership as president and chief executive officer of the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce on the occasion of his retirement; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jim Corcoran as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for his outstanding service to the residents and businesses of Northern Virginia.
