SUMMARY AS PASSED:

Involuntary commitment of a juvenile; notification of parents. Permits the court to proceed with a hearing for the involuntary commitment of a juvenile in instances where both parents cannot be notified if the court determines that copies of the petition for involuntary commitment and notice of the hearing have been served on at least one parent and a reasonable effort has been made to serve such copies on both parents.

Involuntary commitment of a juvenile; notification of parents. Permits the court to proceed with a hearing for the involuntary commitment of a juvenile in instances where both parents cannot be notified if, at the hearing, the court makes a determination that a reasonable effort was made to serve the petition and notice of the hearing on both parents.

SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:

Involuntary commitment of a juvenile; notification of parents. Provides that a petition for the involuntary commitment of a minor shall not be dismissed for failure to immediately serve both parents with a copy of the petition and notice of the hearing if one parent is present at the hearing and the judge determines that a reasonable effort was made to notify the other parent.
