Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Article 5 of Chapter 14 of Title 8.01 a section numbered 8.01-410.1 as follows:

§ 8.01-410.1. When local governing body named as deponent.

When a local governing body receives notice that it has been named as a deponent, it shall designate one or more members of such body to serve as a deponent on its behalf. Such designee and his testimony shall be subject to all of the same duties, responsibilities, and consequences as a corporate or organizational deponent as determined by the rules of court.
