WHEREAS, the Medicaid program authorized by Title XIX of the Social Security Act provides health coverage for low-income individuals; and
WHEREAS, federal law and regulations establish certain parameters for the Medicaid program with which states must comply, allowing states some flexibility in designing and administering their unique state programs of medical assistance; and
WHEREAS, Virginia has taken advantage of some but not all of the options and opportunities available under federal law and regulations governing the Medicaid program; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the Governor be encouraged to enter into an agreement with the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services to extend to all eligible residents of the Commonwealth the full range of services, benefits, and programs available under federal law and regulations through the Medicaid program; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates transmit a copy of this resolution to the Governor, requesting that the Governor further disseminate copies of this resolution to his respective constituents so that they may be apprised of the sense of the General Assembly of Virginia in this matter.
