18104444DWHEREAS, the Disability Navigator is a public-private partnership that links individuals with disabilities to a variety of services and service providers; and
WHEREAS, the Disability Navigator website allows individuals with disabilities to search for housing, in-home care, rehabilitation, respite, assistive technology, home modification, concierge, recreation, support, and life care planning services in their communities; and
WHEREAS, the Disability Navigator provides information about eligibility, fees, accessibility, and other background information about service providers to help individuals determine whether a service will fit their needs as well as access to articles, links to professionals and experts available to answer users' questions, and a community calendar of events; and
WHEREAS, in 2016 the Disability Navigator website received more than 1.6 million visits, with visits averaging more than five minutes in duration, and the Disability Navigator telephone hotline received more than 5,000 calls from individuals seeking information about services; and
WHEREAS, the Disability Navigator is established and maintained by Virginia Navigator, a 501(c)(3) organization that provides free information about health, aging, disability, and post-military resources available to residents of the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, the services provided by Virginia Navigator and the Disability Navigator provide significant benefits to individuals with disabilities in the Commonwealth and their families; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Disability Navigator and Virginia Navigator; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Disability Navigator and Virginia Navigator as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation for their service to the residents of the Commonwealth.
