SUMMARY AS PASSED:
Removal of blight; building collapse. Allows a locality to charge owners of property the cost the locality incurred in removing or repairing a building or structure on such property if permitted under the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code in the event of an emergency.
SUMMARY AS PASSED SENATE:
Removal of blight; building collapse; emergency. Removes the requirement that a locality may not charge owners of property the cost the locality incurred in removing or repairing a building or structure on such property without having provided prescribed notice requirements to the property owner that such repairs are needed for public safety purposes.
SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Removal of blight; building collapse; emergency. Authorizes localities to immediately remove, repair, or secure any building in the event that an emergency is deemed to exist, as certified in writing by the local building code official, without complying with prescribed notice requirements to the property owner.
