HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 475
Commending Virginia DeMolay.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 25, 2017

 

WHEREAS, for 95 years, Virginia DeMolay and its members have served communities throughout the Commonwealth and the United States and made valuable contributions to the welfare of all people; and

WHEREAS, DeMolay International was founded by Frank S. Land in March 1919 in Kansas City, Missouri, and the Virginia chapter was established in 1922; and

WHEREAS, DeMolay is a character-building organization composed of young men between the ages of 12 and 21 who are dedicated to becoming better citizens and leaders by developing traits and strengths that will prepare them for active roles in their communities and throughout the nation; and

WHEREAS, Virginia DeMolay has produced tens of thousands of outstanding citizens in its history, including Governor Charles S. Robb, Attorney General J. Marshall Coleman, United States Secretary of the Treasury Henry H. Fowler, and astronaut Guy Spence Gardner; and

WHEREAS, Virginia DeMolay has succeeded in its mission by providing a well-rounded program of social and athletic activities, as well as volunteering many hundreds of hours each year for charitable and community service; and

WHEREAS, DeMolay Month is held annually to commemorate the anniversary of the death of the organization’s namesake, Jacques de Molay, and to celebrate the founding of DeMolay in the United States and Virginia; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Virginia DeMolay hereby be commended on the occasion of its 95th anniversary of service to young men in the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Virginia DeMolay as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for its work to help the youth of the Commonwealth become men of good character.
