SUMMARY AS PASSED HOUSE:

High school family life education curricula; programs on the prevention of dating violence, domestic abuse, sexual harassment, and sexual violence. Requires any high school family life education curriculum offered by a local school division to incorporate age-appropriate elements of effective and evidence-based programs on the prevention of dating violence, domestic abuse, sexual harassment, and sexual violence.

SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:

High school health education programs; training and education on relationships. Requires each local school division to ensure that its health education program includes curricula for high school students that (i) incorporate elements of effective and evidence-based or evidence-informed programs that include training and education on (a) safe relationship behavior, including the prevention of adolescent and teen dating violence, domestic abuse, sexual harassment, and sexual violence; (b) healthy relationships with family, other individuals, and society and; and (c) consent, communication skills, and emotional health, accountability, and well-being in relationships and (ii) are medically accurate, age appropriate, developmentally appropriate, culturally appropriate, and linguistically appropriate and reflect the diverse circumstances and realities of students. The bill requires the Department of Education to provide local school divisions with guidance and technical assistance on the development and implementation of such curricula.
