SUMMARY AS PASSED HOUSE:
Students who are English language learners; alternative assessments. Requires the Board of Education to consider assessments aligned to the Standards of Learning that are structured and formatted in a way that measures the content knowledge of students who are English language learners and that may be administered to such students as Board of Education-approved alternatives to Standards of Learning end-of-course English reading assessments. This bill is identical to SB 538.
SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Students with limited English proficiency; alternative to the eleventh grade Standards of Learning end-of-course English reading assessment. Requires the Board of Education to authorize the use of an English language proficiency assessment such as the WIDA ACCESS for ELLs assessment as an alternative to the eleventh grade Standards of Learning end-of-course English reading assessment for students with limited English proficiency.
