16105985DWHEREAS, Mechanicsville American Legion Post 175 has worked to support and honor local veterans and has provided generous outreach and service to the Mechanicsville community for 70 years; and
WHEREAS, the American Legion was chartered by the United States Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, mutual help and community service organization for veterans; the legion is organized into state-level departments, regional districts, and local posts; and
WHEREAS, in April 1946, 16 Mechanicsville veterans organized themselves into Mechanicsville American Legion Post 175; and
WHEREAS, Mechanicsville American Legion Post 175 has grown to include more than 300 members, all of whom are active duty military service members or honorably discharged veterans; and
WHEREAS, Mechanicsville American Legion Post 175 supports veterans affairs, facilitates rehabilitation of veterans, promotes patriotism and national security, and empowers local young people to become leaders in the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Mechanicsville American Legion Post 175 hereby be commended on the occasion of its 70th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Mechanicsville American Legion Post 175 as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s admiration for the post’s service to the Mechanicsville community and veterans throughout the Commonwealth and the United States.
