Commending the Virginia College Fund.

WHEREAS, for 50 years, the Virginia College Fund, a consortium of four private, liberal arts colleges and universities, has helped make independent higher education more affordable for students in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, established in 1965 by Averett University, Bluefield College, Eastern Mennonite University, and Ferrum College, the Virginia College Fund was designed to raise money for scholarships and funding to help students attend independent colleges and universities; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia College Fund has raised more than $21,000,000 in its 50-year history, all of which has gone toward student support and general college aid; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia College Fund has helped countless young men and women attend college, including first-generation college students, minority students, and students from underserved communities; and

WHEREAS, the members of the Virginia College Fund make significant contributions to the Commonwealth, and students from all of the Commonwealth’s private colleges and universities have gone on to become leaders in their career fields and communities; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Virginia College Fund hereby be commended on the occasion of its 50th anniversary in 2015; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Virginia College Fund as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the consortium’s commitment to helping Virginia students achieve their dreams.
