SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 56
Celebrating the life of Senior Trooper Michael P. Dooley.
 
Agreed to by the Senate, March 3, 2016
 

WHEREAS, Senior Trooper Michael P. Dooley, who served and protected the residents of Chesapeake for more than a decade as a member of the Virginia State Police, died on October 21, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Senior Trooper Dooley joined the Virginia State Police on April 10, 2002, as a member of the 103rd Basic Session; upon graduation, he began his career with the Area 32 Office in the Chesapeake Division; and

WHEREAS, in 2006, Senior Trooper Dooley transferred to the Sex Offender Investigative Unit (SOIU) in the Criminal Justice Information Services Division; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure on the SOIU, Senior Trooper Dooley received several extraordinary commendations for his dedication, work ethic, and expert management of one of the largest caseloads in Region 3; and

WHEREAS, Senior Trooper Dooley was recognized for his tireless efforts and commitment to train new SOIU compliance officers in his area; and

WHEREAS, Senior Trooper Dooley was a respected and valued member of the Virginia State Police for 13 years; and

WHEREAS, Senior Trooper Dooley’s devotion to his profession was exemplified by his performance of duties during Hurricane Sandy in 2012, when he was assigned to the Island of Chincoteague, where conditions had deteriorated and were extremely hazardous due to lack of power, downed trees, and flooding; and

WHEREAS, a native of Millington, Tennessee, Senior Trooper Dooley was a graduate of Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach and attended Tidewater Community College and Old Dominion University; and

WHEREAS, Senior Trooper Dooley was an immediate past president of the Police Association of Virginia and had raised to the degree of master mason in Great Bridge Masonic Lodge No. 257; and

WHEREAS, Senior Trooper Dooley will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, children, stepchildren, grandchildren, siblings, and numerous other family members, friends, and fellow law-enforcement officers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Senior Trooper Michael P. Dooley, a distinguished law-enforcement officer in Chesapeake; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Senior Trooper Michael P. Dooley as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s respect for his memory.
