Commending the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office.

WHEREAS, the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office earned accolades in 2013, 2014, and 2015 at state and international levels for its traffic safety initiatives as part of the Chiefs Challenge; and

WHEREAS, in the annual Chiefs Challenge, the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police rank law-enforcement agencies based on their efforts to increase highway safety in three categories; and

WHEREAS, for three years, the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office has ranked highly in all three categories, demonstrating dedication to educating the public, increasing enforcement, and recognizing individual officers for their efforts; and

WHEREAS, C. O. Balderson, the sheriff of Westmoreland County, has worked to ensure that the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office clearly educates the public on occupant protection and the dangers of speed and driving under the influence and properly enforces all applicable laws; and

WHEREAS, in 2013, the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office earned the Rookie of the Year Award and placed second overall in the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police Chiefs Challenge, and it placed second in the International Association of Chiefs of Police Chiefs Challenge; and

WHEREAS, in 2014, the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office earned the Impaired Driving Awareness Award and placed second overall in the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police Chiefs Challenge, and it placed first in the International Association of Chiefs of Police Chiefs Challenge; and

WHEREAS, in 2015, the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office placed second in the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police Chiefs Challenge, and it placed third in the International Association of Chiefs of Police Chiefs Challenge; and

WHEREAS, through its participation in the Chiefs Challenge and exemplary performance related to traffic safety issues, the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office has helped make the Commonwealth’s highways safer and reduced traffic-related injuries and fatalities; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office hereby be commended on receiving multiple state and international awards for its traffic safety initiatives; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sheriff C. O. Balderson as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s admiration for the achievements of the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office in service to the community and the Commonwealth.
