SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 32
Celebrating the life of the Honorable N. Wescott Jacob.
 
Agreed to by the Senate, January 28, 2016
 

WHEREAS, the Honorable N. Wescott Jacob, a respected judge of the Second Judicial Circuit of Virginia and an active member of the Eastern Shore community, died on April 13, 2015; and

WHEREAS, a native of Onley, Wescott Jacob graduated from Onancock High School, attended Woodberry Forest School, and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, desirous to be of service to his country, Wescott Jacob joined many of the other young men of his generation as a member of the United States Navy during World War II; he was deployed to the Pacific theater and rose to the rank of lieutenant (junior grade); and

WHEREAS, after his honorable military service, Wescott Jacob earned a law degree from the University of Virginia and served the community through private practice in Onley and Onancock for many years; and

WHEREAS, in 1969, Wescott Jacob followed in his grandfather’s footsteps when he was appointed as a circuit court judge of the Second Judicial Circuit of Virginia; he presided with great fairness and wisdom over courts in Accomack and Northampton Counties; and

WHEREAS, an avid golfer and boater, Wescott Jacob named his boat The 19th Hole and was instrumental in the design of the golf course at Eastern Shore Yacht and Country Club, where he was a founding member; he and his wife also enjoyed gardening and specialized in roses; and

WHEREAS, Wescott Jacob served the community as a member of the local Lions Club, and he enjoyed fellowship and worship at Naomi Makemie Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder and treasurer; and

WHEREAS, a man of great integrity, Wescott Jacob served the Commonwealth with professionalism, dedication, and distinction; and

WHEREAS, Wescott Jacob will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 63 years, Kate; children, John and Marion, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of the Honorable N. Wescott Jacob, a circuit court judge in Accomack and Northampton Counties and a respected resident of the Eastern Shore; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of the Honorable N. Wescott Jacob as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s respect for his memory.
