SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 12 Offered January 13, 2016 Prefiled December 28, 2015 Commending Edward McCann, Jr. ---------- Patrons-- Garrett and Ruff ----------

WHEREAS, Edward McCann, Jr., an outstanding educator and a respected leader in agricultural education who works to provide unique learning opportunities for his students, was named Appomattox County Public Schools Teacher of the Year in May 2015; and

WHEREAS, with seven years of experience in Appomattox County Public Schools, Edward “Ed” McCann currently serves as an instructor in small animal care, veterinary medicine, agricultural production technology, agricultural production management, agricultural power systems, advanced agricultural mechanics, and foundations of agriculture; and

WHEREAS, Ed McCann manages a 25-acre land lab, where students learn how to raise and show livestock and poultry; as a member of the Central Virginia Livestock Show Board, FFA State Advisory Council, and Appomattox County Public Schools Technical Education Advisory Committee, he is well positioned to provide his students with real-world insights and opportunities; and

WHEREAS, under Ed McCann’s leadership, the Agriculture Department at Appomattox County High School has earned numerous awards and accolades from local, state, and national organizations; also, he has received the Virginia Association of Agricultural Educators Teacher of Teachers award; and

WHEREAS, Edward McCann, Jr., was named regional Teacher of the Year and represented Appomattox County Public Schools and all of Region 8 in the Virginia Teacher of the Year competition in October 2015; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Edward McCann, Jr., hereby be commended on being named Appomattox County Public Schools Teacher of the Year in 2015; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Edward McCann, Jr., as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s admiration for his dedication to his students and for his service to Appomattox County.
