Commending the George Wythe High School boys' basketball team.

WHEREAS, the George Wythe High School boys’ basketball team of Richmond won the Virginia High School League Group 3A state championship in March 2015 to claim the program’s first state title; and

WHEREAS, after dominating the competition throughout the playoffs, the George Wythe High School Bulldogs defeated the previously unbeaten Spotswood High School Trailblazers by a score of 80–60; and

WHEREAS, Maliek White led the George Wythe High School Bulldogs with 35 points in the state final, followed by Brandon Holley with 20 points; the duo accounted for a combined 103 points in the semifinal and the final games; and

WHEREAS, with the state championship victory, the George Wythe High School Bulldogs finished the season with an impressive 26–6 record, having won eight of its nine conference games by 14 points or more; and

WHEREAS, the George Wythe High School Bulldogs later received four high school basketball awards from the Sports Talk show, with Maliek White selected as most valuable player, Brandon Holley selected as offensive player of the year, Willard Coker selected as coach of the year, and the team selected as Richmond City Champions; and

WHEREAS, the victory is a testament to the skill and hard work of the athletes, the able leadership of the coaches and staff, and the passionate support of the entire George Wythe High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the George Wythe High School boys’ basketball team on winning the Virginia High School League Group 3A state championship in 2015; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Willard Coker, head coach of the George Wythe High School boys’ basketball team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the team’s achievements.
