SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 77
Commending the Rappahannock High School girls' doubles tennis team.

WHEREAS, the Rappahannock High School girls’ doubles tennis team, consisting of Lori Gagnon and Taylor Yeatman, displayed talent, determination, and persistence to win the Virginia High School League Group 1A state championship on June 12, 2015; and

WHEREAS, the duo from Richmond County defeated the Radford High School doubles team to claim the title in a hard-fought contest that lasted more than two hours; and

WHEREAS, after losing the first set by a score of 3–6, the Rappahannock Lady Raiders changed strategy and won the next two sets by scores of 6–3 and 6–4 to achieve their ultimate goal of taking a championship trophy back to their school; and

WHEREAS, during the championship, which was held at Radford University, the Rappahannock High School doubles tennis teammates concentrated on their strengths, especially after the first set; Taylor Yeatman stayed at the net for much of the remainder of the match, and Lori Gagnon was in the back court; and

WHEREAS, earlier in the day, the Rappahannock High School players defeated another talented doubles tennis team; Lori Gagnon and Taylor Yeatman won a three-set match against Auburn High School to advance to the state championship final; and

WHEREAS, the girls’ tennis team from Rappahannock High School is ably coached by Marian Walker and Jackie Morris; the doubles champions—and the entire team—were supported throughout the season by their fellow students and the Rappahannock High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Rappahannock High School girls’ doubles tennis team, consisting of Lori Gagnon and Taylor Yeatman, for winning the 2015 Virginia High School League Group 1A state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Marian Walker, head coach of the Rappahannock High School girls’ tennis team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for the girls’ doubles tennis team’s championship performance.
