WHEREAS, Chief Warrant Officer Joseph Bernard Wisniewski, Jr., USA, Ret., a distinguished veteran, successful business owner, and devoted community leader who worked to enhance the lives of his fellow Northern Virginia residents, died on June 19, 2015; and

WHEREAS, a native of Shamokin, Pennsylvania, Joseph Wisniewski graduated from Shamokin High School, where he served as a student athletic manager; after high school, desirous to be of service to his country, he joined the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, specializing in telecommunications, Joseph Wisniewski was stationed in Munich, Germany, and helped run the Bavarian Phone Company for the United States Army; over the course of his 25-year military career, he earned a Bronze Star Medal and served in France, Korea, Vietnam, as well as various posts in the United States; and

WHEREAS, after his retirement from the military in 1969, Joseph Wisniewski managed and owned Joe Smart’s Radio and TV Service in Springfield and founded Wiz Enterprise; he provided exceptional service to the community and was a respected mentor to many of his employees; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Wisniewski worked tirelessly to serve and strengthen his community through volunteer efforts; as a member of the Fairfax County Democratic Committee, Eighth District Democratic Committee, and Annandale District Democratic Committee, he encouraged others to fulfill their civic duty; and

WHEREAS, earning many awards and accolades for his good work, Joseph Wisniewski received the 1994 Jefferson-Jackson Award, the 2002 Eagle Award for Achievement in Civil Rights and Public Service, and the 2008 Joseph V. Gartlan, Jr., Award for service to Fairfax County; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by his beloved wife, Marianne, Joseph Wisniewski will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his children, Karen, Nina, Vera, and Marc, and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Chief Warrant Officer Joseph Bernard Wisniewski, Jr., USA, Ret., a decorated veteran, business owner, servant to the Northern Virginia community, and a great American; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Chief Warrant Officer Joseph Bernard Wisniewski, Jr., USA, Ret., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
