Celebrating the life of Tiffany May Joslyn.

WHEREAS, Tiffany May Joslyn and her brother Derrick Thomas Joslyn died unexpectedly and tragically on March 5, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Tiffany was a passionate and caring person who loved animals, and she served as past president of the Virginia Partisans Gay and Lesbian Democratic Club and PAC that led the way in Virginia by endorsing pro-equality Democrats in elections; she helped transition it to the LGBT Democratic Caucus as it is now known; and

WHEREAS, Tiffany was a vice president and past president of the Arlington Gay and Lesbian Alliance, the oldest continuously operating LGBT organization in the Commonwealth of Virginia, as well as a member of the Arlington County Human Rights Commission; and

WHEREAS, Tiffany played a very active role in the Arlington Young Democrats, including serving as chair of its LGBT Caucus, and the Arlington County Democratic Committee, and in 2010 she managed Sally Baird’s successful school board campaign; and

WHEREAS, Tiffany graduated from Clark University in 2004, earning her bachelor of arts degree in government with a concentration on law, ethics and public policy; and

WHEREAS, Tiffany graduated from the George Washington University Law School in 2007 and studied at the Oxford International Human Rights Law Program; and

WHEREAS, Tiffany clerked for the Honorable John Fisher of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals in addition to working with other respected organizations and firms, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Appellate Division of the United States Attorney’s Office, and Spriggs and Hollingsworth; and

WHEREAS, Tiffany furthered her civic knowledge by participating in the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership in 2011; and

WHEREAS, Tiffany served as counsel for white collar crime policy at the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers for six years; and  

WHEREAS, Tiffany worked as a deputy chief counsel for the House Judiciary Crime Subcommittee in the United States House of Representatives, a position she began in 2015 and considered her dream job; and

WHEREAS, Tiffany was just 33 years old and her brother Derrick was only 28 years old when their lives were prematurely taken; and

WHEREAS, Tiffany will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by numerous family members and friends throughout the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Tiffany Joslyn, a beloved Arlingtonian, and her brother Derrick Joslyn; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Tiffany May Joslyn and Derrick Thomas Joslyn as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for their memory.
