Commending Edythe Frankel Kelleher.

WHEREAS, Edythe Frankel Kelleher, who has admirably and tirelessly served as a member of the Vienna Town Council for 14 years, will step down on June 30, 2016; and

WHEREAS, a Vienna homeowner since 1994 and desiring to serve her community, Edythe Kelleher has contributed her time and talents to many community and civic groups, both locally and at the state level; and

WHEREAS, Edythe Kelleher was elected to the Vienna Town Council in 2002 and is its longest-serving member; she has focused on controlling the town’s tax rates and has initiated many conservation, environmental, and public safety measures; and

WHEREAS, Edythe Kelleher founded the Vienna Green Expo, a showcase for saving money and energy; the Friends of Vienna Town Green, which raises money to fund a popular summer concert series, and she initiated Vienna’s Community Garden, an education and sustainability project; and

WHEREAS, Edythe Kelleher supported increased enforcement of erosion and sedimentation controls at construction projects in the town, and she supported new sidewalks, traffic calming measures, and community policing initiatives; and

WHEREAS, earlier in her career, Edythe Kelleher was chair of the Hunter Mill Land Use Advisory Committee, president of the South Vienna Association, and participated in a capital campaign for the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, Edythe Kelleher was president of parent-teacher associations at two local schools and currently is a member of the Halloween Parade Committee, the Vienna Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Vienna Host Lions Club, and the auxiliary of American Legion Post 180; and

WHEREAS, at the state level, Edythe Kelleher has contributed her time and talents as an executive board member of the Virginia Municipal League, serving as chair of the Finance Committee and vice chair of the Legislative Committee; and

WHEREAS, Edythe Kelleher is currently executive director of the Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation; she earned a bachelor’s degree from Johns Hopkins University and a master’s degree from The George Washington University, and she is a graduate of the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership at the University of Virginia; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Edythe Frankel Kelleher for her many years of outstanding service as a member of the Vienna Town Council; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Edythe Frankel Kelleher as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and admiration for her dedicated work on behalf of the people of Vienna and the Commonwealth.
