2016 SESSION
WHEREAS, after more than 22 years of dedicated service to the residents of the Shenandoah Valley including his time as the head of one of the largest electric power cooperatives in the United States, Myron D. Rummel, president and chief executive officer of the Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative, retires on August 31, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Myron D. Rummel began his career with the Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative as an engineer and rose through the ranks to become president and chief executive officer in 2005; at the time, the cooperative served customers in parts of the Counties of Augusta, Rockbridge, Rockingham, and Shenandoah in Virginia and Hardy County, West Virginia; and
WHEREAS, under Myron D. Rummel’s able leadership, the Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative expanded service to additional areas of Shenandoah County; the Counties of Clarke, Frederick, Page, and Warren; and the entire City of Winchester in Virginia; and
WHEREAS, the acquisition of new territory was one of the most significant milestones in the history of the Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative; the acquisition helped to delay planned price increases for existing customers and provided the cooperative’s exceptional system reliability to new customers; and
WHEREAS, the acquisition more than doubled Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative’s customer base, creating many more jobs in the region; Myron D. Rummel worked diligently to ensure the transition was handled smoothly for both customers and employees; and
WHEREAS, Myron D. Rummel helped the Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative adapt to changes in technology, such as automated meters, which have allowed for remote reading and provided consumers with valuable data to manage electricity usage and reduce their bills; and
WHEREAS, after his well-earned retirement, Myron D. Rummel plans to spend more time with his wife, Jackie, and their children and grandchildren; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Myron D. Rummel on the occasion of his retirement as president and chief executive officer of the Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Myron D. Rummel as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his contributions to the residents of the Shenandoah Valley and best wishes for a happy retirement.
