2016 SESSION
WHEREAS, in 2016, C. D. Hylton Senior High School celebrates 25 years of providing a top-quality education to students in Prince William County through a variety of creative and stimulating programs; and
WHEREAS, each year, the more than 2,000 students who attend C. D. Hylton Senior High School are encouraged and expected to achieve their highest potential in a variety of rigorous curricular courses and related opportunities; and
WHEREAS, C. D. Hylton Senior High School has enrolled students from 35 countries, who collectively have spoken more than 25 languages in their homes; additionally, the school’s academic offerings include classes in nine foreign languages; and
WHEREAS, C. D. Hylton Senior High School is home to the Center for International Studies and Languages; additionally, students can pursue vocational training in TV production, cabinetry, or the award-winning Automotive Technology Program; and
WHEREAS, C. D. Hylton Senior High School’s academic success includes being named one of the top high schools in the nation by Newsweek magazine and The Washington Post; over the years, several students have been honored as National Advanced Placement Scholars, and others have been National Hispanic Commended Scholars; and
WHEREAS, the dedicated staff at C. D. Hylton Senior High School includes award-winning teachers and administrators, all of whom encourage the entire community to work together as a family to help students achieve success; and
WHEREAS, C. D. Hylton Senior High School is one of a few select public high schools in the Commonwealth with a planetarium; the state-of-the-art facility is open to all Prince William County public school students; and
WHEREAS, art students at C. D. Hylton Senior High School have won local and regional arts competitions; the school’s chorus has sung in venues across the country; and the band has performed at football bowl games, at Walt Disney World, and in London; and
WHEREAS, the strong athletic program at C. D. Hylton Senior High School has resulted in two national championship boys’ soccer teams and 12 state athletic titles; additionally, 17 students from the school have become professional athletes; and
WHEREAS, all members of the C. D. Hylton Senior High School community strive to work together to promote student achievement; student learning and staff effectiveness are enhanced by teaching with a global perspective, emphasizing the benefits of diversity, and encouraging inclusiveness and acceptance; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend C. D. Hylton Senior High School on the occasion of its 25th anniversary of providing an exemplary and well-rounded education to students in Prince William County; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to David J. Cassady, Jr., principal of C. D. Hylton Senior High School, as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for being one of the outstanding schools in the Commonwealth.
